This past Friday, September 5, the Center for Latino Arts and Culture welcomed new and returning students to campus with its yearly Open House/Casa Abierta BBQ program.
The program followed the Student Involvement Fair, organized by Student Life and engaged over 300 people, including students, faculty and staff.
This year, the event featured GAMAE, a New Jersey-based organization focused on the preservation of Garifuna music and dance traditions originating in Belize and Saint Vincent. The group is led by Eleanor Bullock, who also serves as staff in the Rutgers University Purchasing Department.
Also featured at the event were members of RU Salsa, a club which promotes Latin dance through lessons and community performances.
Over a dozen Latino student organizations, including the Latino Student Council, various clubs and several fraternities and sororities participated in the event promoting their programs and recruiting new members.
